Shattered Mirror, Scattered Pieces

Shattered Mirror, Scattered Pieces

A Poem by Ramblings of a Mediocre Mind
"

When do you move on?

"
I smash the mirror with my fist
Shards scatter on the floor.
I glance at my reflection
At the cracked mirror before me.
My eyes are hollow
Dark circles visible under my hazel eyes.
My face is tear-streaked
From crying my heart out.

I was broken
More broken than I was before I met you.
You said you’d fix me
A promise that had not been kept.
Understanding was what I sought
But rejection was what I got.
I knew I have my faults
I didn’t need your constant reminding.

I know I’m not perfect
And I will never be.
We have loved each other
Yet we broke one another.
I have to forget the pain
And let it all go.

It was not easy
But I know that it was what I had to do.
As I continue to look at the broken mirror
The hazel-eyed girl stares back at me.
Slowly she turns around and walks away
Leaving all the broken pieces.
Leaving everything behind
Finally moving on.

Ramblings of a Mediocre Mind
I've just started writing again recently so my subject-verb agreement sucked a bit. Had a good friend proofread it for me. This is the final product. :)

On the ranch, a man may break the indomitable will of a horse and have him accept a rider. In love, we may do pretty much the same, to each other. It makes it possible for two people to open up their passions to one another and rely on it to represent their interest in each other. Sometimes its a little raw and we are unable to refine the experience beyond a certain point. A nice write about a good attempt!

You speak of the eyes a bit in your poems. They say that the eyes are the windows to your soul. Staring into a mirror, wonder what your thinking. Trying to figure out who you are, or who you have become. This is a hard part of life that I believe everyone goes through. Sometimes, we even try to find ourselves in others, like best friends, or mates. But, in the end, you realize that you can only find yourself within yourself. Sorry if I sound like Yoda or something, but this is what was on my mind as I read your poem. I really like it. Keep up the good work.

a mirror is often used to reflect love, whether it be reflecting a false mirror image or breaking into a gazillion places it will be there.

the sharp broken shards often remind us how painful it is...but cleaning up the mess is the 1st step to moving on

Sometimes a new start is needed when the here and now isn't working anymore. Well done on capturing and expressing such complex thoughts in this form.
