A free verse poem about wanting to die.

"Memento Mori"

Often, the world welcomes you with happy faces

Rarely, they welcome you with pain and hatred

Showing you the one side of life

Protecting you from the other

Then you started to discover

Discover new things that would either make you happy or sad

Realizing the other side that was hidden from you

The bitter sweet things in life

You held dear to precious memories

Remembering them each day

You keep clinging to precious persons

Whom you wanted to spend each second

Though life is a roller coaster

For a second it will make you happy

Then in a snap will make you cry

All of a sudden you only want to die

You keep on crying to end your life

You keep on thinking how

You keep on faking just to show you're fine

But always remember "Memento Mori"

"Remember you must die"

Nothing is permanent

You just have to wait

You wait for that exact time to die

I'm not the best person to proof read, but I will comment. You stated in your poem that life is a roller-coaster. It certainly is, a mixture of highs and lows. So when things start going pear shaped and you are on a low, it is encouraging to think that this situation is unlikely to last. You quote some latin, "Remember you must die", yes it will happen to all of us. Not one of us escapes, but I would rather postpone it. I found your poem sad, focusing on death.

This is a really good poem. It's very rooted in truth.

The phrase "Memento Mori" came to my life at a time of great sadness as well, however, I took to it as something of a humbling mantra. "Remember you must die," to me, works as both a bad omen and a living reminder that we are all equal. The phrase applies to all of us, and whether we like it or not, there will come a time where we can no longer speak up to correct or improve our standing in this world.

If nothing else, it reminds me to call my grandparents every few days, and also to cherish my friendships.

I hope that you get out of whatever funk has gotten a hold of you. It always gets better.
