Ghost TownA Story by GeckoChernobyl, Ukraine is a ghost
town. Swings sway aimlessly in the bitter wind, missing the warm touch of a
little boy or the bubbling giggle of a school girl. Empty houses that are no
longer homes stand vacant, their roof’s sagging inwards with despair. In the
air hangs a pungent stench that leaves that numbing burn on your tongue; like
after you eat sour worms, only more acidic. Bars, fairgrounds, schools, shops
all stand with no purpose. Valued architecture pleading for something,
anything, a whisper in the wind or a sudden scream for help. Emptiness,
nothingness and pity coated every wall of every building, every floor of every
house, every pane of every window. Nothing lives here, no bacteria or bugs or
birds. The only thing that this abandoned town will ever hear are the faint
sobs of the spirits that inhabited this once beautiful civilization. © 2021 GeckoReviews
