Of Peachy ringsA Chapter by Liz AlexanderA lingering hug With a lingering gentle kiss Is the good bye And walk away Without a look back When I look back It takes twice as long To come back And console her more Its even harder To say goodbye Knowing I have to be The one to walk away She holds on To me Anchoring me To herself I don’t know Why I told her I would take her To school That worked So well last time Leaving both of us in tears Now we are even closer Than we were then I hold her hand As I drive Because it reminds me That we are together My friend is with us He came To make sure She falls asleep Gripping my hand A peaceful smile Plays on her lips I came to stop At the half way point I saw her phone buzz And I read the text From little miss popular Saying ok have fun I’ll see you soon Being a nosy creep I look at the sent messages Saying I would take her I stop and get gas She slowly wakes up I told her I wasn’t going to wake you I’ll be done in a minute And we will go She shakes her head I want a cool drink And peachy rings She says I watch her walk away Happy to have this time With her As we sit back In the car a little while later She eats the peach rings With her A & W root beer She starts to get hyper Changing songs multiply times Never picking her mood She asked me if I wanted one I shook my head She pouted a tiny bit Till I take one She starts to read Her book When we get her To her school I take out her bags Put them on the ground Taking her in my arms Knowing when I drive off I will be dreaming Of her blue eyes I give her a little kiss on the forehead Then gently moving my lips To hers Tasting the little hint of Peachy rings © 2011 Liz Alexander |
