Unfinished Fairytale

Unfinished Fairytale

A Chapter by Liz Alexander

Now I am back in his arms

Fall break gives me peace

As I finally

Not longing for him

After we hold each other

I remind him

That I made plans

With some of his friends

And mine….

He sighs and kisses

My forehead lingering his lips

I grab his hand

And pull him to his door

Push him in

Go, change I say

As I walk away from his door

I grab a jacket

Waiting for him to change

I sit on the stairs

When we finally get to the car

I take the keys from him

Grinning as he tries

To take them back

Finally I let them slip

Through my fingers

Into his

When I am riding

I look to the passing cars

I think back to what

I was doing right before

He ran into my room

The poem that was left unfinished

“Look at me

I see the land

Where I used to tread

Unhappily single being

Untill the day

I was swept off my feet…”

He was the inspiration

For that

I still haven’t shown

Him the works

Of my soul

There has been no time

When we began to actually date

We separated

To our separate colleges

Since we left

Each others sides

I have been a writing machine

I have filled a notebook full

Of poems

About him

Sometime when my phone rings

I have been writing

My thoughts drift on

The one thing

That has called me back

Was his voice saying my name?

We’re here I hear him say

When we get out

His hand grabs mine

Only breaking our contact

When I grab a bowl

To get my frozen yogurt

Our friends are already here

To guys give a man hug

My friends draw me into

Their inner circle

Asking why we are late

With a glimpse of evil

And a smirk on their face

I glance back at him

Catching his eyes

Saying he was taking

Too long to change

When the night comes

To an end

We curl up

On the couch

Him watching tv

His arm wrapped around me

I am writing in my notebook

Using his chest

As a hard surface

Make shift table

Happy and content

Starting to feel love

For this person

Holding me

As I finish the poem

I left

An unfinished fairytale

Take a long time to finish a complete fairytale. A very good story. No-one find peace and happiness easily. I like the ending. Left a opening for more story. A very good poem.
