We will go

We will go

A Chapter by Liz Alexander
"

The guys point of view of the departing from her college and the journey to his college.

"

Driving from her arms

To the place

Last your I called home

Now I could hear

Something breaking

Not from her

Yet me…

I think back

To what I said

To her

That we will text, call, Skype

I feel bad for starting

This new found relationship

Real relationship

A week before

We have to go forward

Into two worlds

As I hit the high way

That will be what lies

Between us

I don’t know

How long I can go

Without those beautiful

Storm clouds

I flash back

To the day

That we secretly

Got married

Beyond our choice

When it began this promise

The tear are swelled

In her eyes

It scared the words

Out of me into silence

Now every time

I see a hint of tears

On her

I want nothing more

Than to draw her into my arms

My mind goes back to the road

As I look a head

Every mile ahead

Is closer to college

I go to

The path I have chosen

I speed my car up

Wanting to get closer

To familiar faces

I can already

Tell this is going

To be the death of me

-

A few hours later

I see the sign to get off

The exit to Harding

When I finally stop my car

Putting it in park

I look at my phone

15 new messages

Some from my mom and dad

A few from my grandparents

Asking to tell them

When I get there

I text them back saying

I am safe and so is she

One from my sister

Six from my roommate

All the messages I checked

Expect the one that

Four from my girl

I wait till

The unloading has ended

And greeted my friends

With a man hug

Then I look at the phone again

When I have settled down in bed

To at last read

The texts from her

Because I want to forget

A little…

While the scene that

Had haunted me

Since I left her arms

As I read her texts

Tears spring to my eyes

When I see the words

“I know we will make it

If we take it

One day at a time”

One day at a time

We will go

I texted back

One day at a time is wise words. Old world is hard to make great plans. I like the feel of needing to know in this poem. A word or a message is necessary to keep our hope alive. I like the ending. A excellent poem.
