A Poem by Liz Alexander

“STICKS AND STONES MIGHT BREAK

MY BONES

BUT WORDS CAN NEVER HURT ME”

WE HEAR THE WORDS ALL THE TIME

YET WORDS STILL HURT

THE MIND AND THE SPIRIT

PAIN WE FEEL THROUGH THE WORDS

STAY WITH US FOREVER

THE SILENT WORKS

OF THOSE WHO TOUCHS PEOPLES HEARTS

YET THEY WILL NEVER KNOW

WHO DID THAT’S WHERE I’LL BE

IN TIME AND PAIN WILL LOSE THE WORDS

I STILL HAVE THE GRIEF

WHEN I DON’T GET TALKED BOUT

THE GOOD I HAVE DONE

YET IT’S ALL ABOUT THE BAD THINGS

RUMORS ALL SPREAD

“STICKS AND STONES MIGHT BREAK

MY BONES

BUT WORDS CAN NEVER HURT ME”

IT STILL HURTS
