CHAPTER 7

CHAPTER 7

A Chapter by iamcarolfierce

I arrived earlier than the usual time at the hotel. So I decided to head straight to the restroom to groom myself when Tasia called me.

“Sophie!” Tasia said in her Chinese accent. “ Mr. Jefferson talked to me earlier and he wanted me to tell you that you should go to his office. I don’t exactly know what he is about to tell you but I could see it is something important. Tasia continued, and her face was dead-serious.

I went there straight and was kind of nervous since that was the first time that I saw Tasia like that. I have no idea about what Mr. Jefferson will tell me and I feel like sweating really hard.

I am outside his office right now and I grabbed my handkerchief and wiped my sweat, followed by a long and deep breath. I was thinking twice about entering his office but I have no choice but to go inside.

   Knock! Knock!

   “Come in!” Mr. Jefferson said.

I opened his door and felt the coldness of his room. I rubbed my palm against each other and transferred its warmth to my shoulders.

“Good morning Sir Jefferson, Tasia told me to come here.” I said, looking straight at him. As usual, he is looking neat and really good in his blue long sleeves and black slacks. His black shoes are very well-polished and just like the first time, I still find him looking like a prince.

“Yes, I did ask her to tell you that. Sit.” He replied in a firm, gentle voice.

Mr. Jefferson, amidst being a friend to everyone, still knows how to act when he is inside the office. A boss that is firm and unbiased. I sat in front of him as he pulled his chair and sat.

“Yesterday might have been one of the worst days of the hotel. I was out and most of the heads are on their meeting and an unexpected scenario happened. They told me about this guest that most staffs can’t control.” Mr. Jefferson recounted and paused for a minute.

I remembered what happened yesterday. A man, a tall, old, Brazilian man was complaining about his loyalty card that he bought the other day. A receptionist may have given him a wrong card and it was too late when he checked it. And he was searching for his card at the Front Desk and everybody were alarmed for he was yelling and cursing everyone. I had just arrived there and he was asking me.

“And they were really, really thankful about what you’ve done. You were the only one who’s calm and ready to attend the guest’s complain without looking worried. One of the manager saw how you act and attend to the guest and she was proud of you. She wants me to know about it especially when she recognized that you were still a trainee yet you acted like a professional receptionist. You proved me that you should really be hired in this company just like what you’ve said in the interview. By the way, that guest was an ambassador.”

I was astonished with what Mr. Jefferson had said. My hands are shaking a bit and I could hear that my breath is somewhat irregular. I have mixed emotions at the moment.

“So, with this feedback plus those other positive feedbacks from the employees and as well as from the guests, and also, since you’re already working here for over a month. I would like to tell you that you are now a regular employee here at Hotel Supreme. You now have your regular shift plus added benefits which will be discussed after your work today. So come back here later Miss Sophie Velasco. I am so proud of you and congratulations!” Mr. Jefferson continued as he stood in front of me.

A tear fell from my eye. I wasn’t expecting this that I can’t even speak nor think on how to react. I just hugged him and let my emotions out.

“Your make up is really good and you looked really gorgeous today Sophie and I don’t think you want it to be ruined girl, right?” He joked and we just laughed it off.

Amidst all those troubles and hardships that I am going through, I think everything is slowly paying off. Now, I am more motivated and inspired with my work. So, after my shift, I went to Mr. Jefferson’s office again and got my new permanent schedule.

I had a morning shift, from 7 AM to 5 PM. It was kind of early but it was a good schedule though since I still had the evening time to do other things.

After going out of Mr. Jefferson’s office, I went to the restroom to change my clothes. The restroom was really spacious, just like the restroom that I have seen from the mall. Then I again, I had a flashback of what happened with me and Justin.

“I just still can’t believe it” I said to myself, chuckling as I pulled out my vanity kit from my bag. Then a small, hard paper fell from my bag.

I grabbed it and was puzzled. “Now whose calling card is this?” The information about the card was on the back so I turned and to my surprise, I almost had a mini heart attack.

  “That freak!” I exclaimed.

It was a sunny morning, and I find everything normal as I drove myself off to school. Everything was just so lovely and I was doing my usual habit, checking and texting from my phone. I was waiting for a message from someone who made most of my college days complete.  He was my classmate and my buddy.  We hang out with each other every day, after class. I try hard not to fell from his silly jokes and his naturally sweet nature.  At first, I find him only as an older brother to me since he was 2 years older than I am.  But, as time passes by and we became closer with each other, I realized that I am falling to him deeper. He was not an ordinary person anymore. He was more of a classmate, more of a buddy and more of a brother. He was my first love.

“Good morning David. Have a great day!”

“Hi David, you missed the first class. Are you gonna be absent the whole day?”

“David? Have your lunch. Ingat ka! (Take care!) J

And those were the last text messages that I sent him. No response at all. In a snap, David was gone.

“Sophie? Are you still there?” Tasia came in. Good thing she woke me up from reminiscing again. I felt the old heartache I used to feel before.

“Yes, I’m still here!” I answered and quickly fixed my bag. I took a deep breath and looked at the mirror for the last time. “Sophie, you are brave. You are strong. You are fierce.”  I said to myself and went out of the restroom.

“I already heard the good news, congrats Sophie! I am so happy for you!” Tasia said.

   “Oh really? Thank you Tasia!”

“You are welcome! So where are you heading now, Miss Gorgeous?”

“Well, since I have been working a lot this past few days, I guess it’s time for me to at least, give myself a reward. I’m heading off to the mall. Do you wanna come?”

“I would love to but I still have my work. Anyway, I got to go back to the office, I just went here to say that I’m really, really glad that you’ll be working here as a regular. I’ll see you tomorrow again, friend! ”

“Alright then. Take care Tasia!” I bid Tasia goodbye then went out of the hotel.

I used to have a great passion in writing before. Composed poems and songs, had written essays and stories. However, time made me a real bum. Vices and peers came and I forgot about writing. But no.. more..
