Liquid Courage

A poem inspired by alcoholism

No one told me that liquid courage came with strength, too
Or that brown bottles packaged truth
Why did none say that wisdom was frothy and bitter?
Or that it would take my life out of the shitter?
I've found the answer to all of life's mysteries
And the culmination of the world's beautiful scenery
It's turned my past into naught but joy
And when I take a swig, it makes a man from a boy
It gives me the power to face you
And the power to shake your boyfriend's hand, too
