OzA Poem by Erin"What if Dorothy and the Scarecrow had't followed The Yellow Brick Road?"-MIT application prompt. My english teacher unknowingly gave me this meaningful prompt, and this was my response. If Dorothy had not tread a road of yellow brick, And if Scarecrow had hung his head and let the sun sap his energy while the crows circled, A field of poppies would ferment and burst, poison air seeping through the land. A feral cat would loathe and lash and unleash his pain. A Witch would rule. The magic would be gone, and any childish hopes and dreams I do contain would never have blossomed in the cynical tundra of my thoughts. There would be no music, or laughter, or camaraderie. If Dorothy had tread a different trail, I would be lost in a forest, chased by winged creatures, And utterly alone with no one to hide behind the curtain with.
