Daughter Not

Daughter Not

A Poem by Frankie Nguyen

You speak lies so fluently
No stutter in your voice
Lies evenly spoken from your lips
Does it bother you?
That you lie to your own daughter?
Does it bother you?
That with every lie you break me down?
With every lie my heart breaks
A mother shouldn't lie with every sentence
No one's perfect
So why do I have to be
You tell me to change
You don't like how I am
I'm not your genius daughter
I'm not the daughter who loves to dress up
I don't wear skirts or dresses
I don't wear heels
I don't wear designer brands
Am I not the daughter you wanted?
Was I your practice child
Did I turn out wrong so you cut me out
Am I no longer in the family portrait
She fills the void that I couldn't
That's fine with me
No really it is
Don't worry I'm not your daughter

I love it, I feel a great emotion yet a lack of emotion. Kind of hard to put in word! Great poem!
