A Definition.A Poem by i.am.the.sun.so i wrote this a long time ago and had completely forgotten about it. but while digging up old tid bits for the Bits and Pieces: Back in Action! thing i found it again. At first i thought "oh s**t, how wrong am i going to end up being?" since this philosophy of emotions course i'm in right now primarily deals with this matter. and it turns out i pretty much nailed it in some respects. i can point out a few things that Agathon or Aristodeamus would agree on. and Pausanias and Phaedrus. anyways...
Love. Love is. Love is... love is being away from someone and feeling like you’ll never get them back again. Love is being with someone and not ever wanting to be away from them again because you can’t bear to not have that person in your arms and feeling them against you. It’s wanting to do whatever you’re doing with that person beside you. It’s wanting to go wherever you’re going with that person in the seat beside you, walking next to you, or holding your hand. It’s not thinking about how much money something costs or where you’re going, what you’ll do later or what people will think. It’s not knowing what to do with that person but not really caring either. It’s doing anything without them and feeling like they should be there since it doesn’t make sense to do anything without them. It’s wanting that person to be happy no matter what, and it’s being willing to do anything to make that happen. It’s putting that person first and wanting for them what they want. It’s knowing someone, or wanting to know them more than ever before, more than anyone else. It’s feeling like you’re missing part of yourself when the other’s away. Sometimes it feels like you’re missing your best part. It’s feeling like there’s no way in the world that you can feel like you miss that person more, or that there’s no way you can feel better than how they make you feel, that there’s no way you can like that person more. All of that, and much much more, books more, entire careers of writers, and personal definitions and additions of the description of love are all summed up in that very word: love. © 2011 i.am.the.sun. |
