You make me a liar.A Poem by i.am.the.sun.
One thing you’ve taught me
is that I can't trust what I say when around you. My intentions- absolutely, I mean what I say entirely. The subject in reference, however, holds no such certainty. Your lips, your eyes, your nose, your cheeks, your ears, and smile, and all the rest- have all made me say to myself- “That one, that’s the one, those are the lips that all lips try to be, and that is the smile all eyes want to see and those are the eyes I want focused on me- yes, that is the face of Aphrodite." But- they have all changed. And every day do they change, if only slightly, making what I claim each day before a lie. I know this when I look at you and this new face I see then holds my gaze, as I vow, again, another phrase: “Now those, those are the lips that sent ships out to sea, and that is the smile that set all their hearts free, and these are the eyes that emptied a city, yes, this is the face of Aphrodite.” © 2017 i.am.the.sun.Author's Note
