You make me a liar.

You make me a liar.

A Poem by i.am.the.sun.

One thing you’ve taught me
is that I can't trust what I say when around you.
My intentions- absolutely,
I mean what I say entirely.
The subject in reference, however,
holds no such certainty.

Your lips, your eyes,
your nose, your cheeks,
your ears, and smile,
and all the rest-
have all made me say to myself-

“That one, that’s the one,
those are the lips that all lips try to be,
and that is the smile all eyes want to see
and those are the eyes I want focused on me-
yes, that is the face of Aphrodite."

But- they have all changed.
And every day do they change, if only slightly,
making what I claim each day before a lie.
I know this when I look at you
and this new face I see then holds my gaze,
as I vow, again, another phrase:

“Now those,
those are the lips that sent ships out to sea,
and that is the smile that set all their hearts free,
and these are the eyes that emptied a city,
yes, this is the face of Aphrodite.”

Author's Note

i.am.the.sun.
Alternatively named "The sun will burn brightest tomorrow, and tomorrow these words will still be true."
Originally named "THE CHEEKS THAT SENT THE GREEKS" but I couldn't stop laughing at that so I changed it. Still makes me smirk.
