Cosmic puppy Laika love

Cosmic puppy Laika love

A Poem by i.am.the.sun.
"

just a scribble.

"

you know what i like about the moon/

it's round...

some of the time.

the other times it's winking

(but it's still round!)

i like that i feel lucky when i see it eclipse,

and when it tucks the world in under it's blanket.

and,

well,

i really like that it's round.

but what do i like most about the moon?

well, i'm not quite sure..

maybe that it's in love.

when i look up and i see alll thsoe stars,

billion and billions upon even more millions,

and they're all so far away,

all twinkling together,

shining together,

families of constellations,

pairs side by side,

that silly one you swear is moving...

they're all so far away,

like hometown friends.

and it gets a little lonely.

but we should be so lucky,

to have this space rock.

this lovely little moon,

which never turns its back to us,

and never stops dancing too.

our little moon is just that,

ours.

it's not going anywhere,

it's not going to misundersatnd us,

and it'snot going to invite the in-laws over.

our moon has the worst case

of cosmic puppy love we've ever know;

Laika love.

and also that it will always be there.

that's a pretty good reason,

but maybe not my favorite.

i also really like how it connects us,

me and you,

you and i,

no matter where we are.

i do especially like

how no matter how far the world has come between,

i can look up at that lovely little moon

and you could be looking at it too.

and in that moment of distant twin dreaming

we can imagine ourselves at that crator

sitting on its edge

dipping our toes in its dusty sea,

watching the earth spin,

pointing and saying

"look! there's you! and there's me!"

laughing at how we'd outsmarted location...

it would be quiet.

still.

tranquility.

no matter where we are!

that's something else i like about the moon.

but again,

i really like that it's round;

a symbol of no starts,

no ends,

only infinite moments reliving the next.

no half hearted gestures

or unfinished sentences.

only what is,

the present circumstance-

that of there being a giant rock in outer space

which loves and circles our world,

which we can go escape to at anytime no matter what,

which makes me feel okay.

yeah,

that's what i like best about it.

i.am.the.sun.
"Laika" - the first dog to fly in outer space.
the odd "tranquility" line? see- "sea of tranquility" on the moon.
