Life, Simply

Life, Simply

A Poem by Kelsey B.

A child,

Impressionable and simplistic,

Yearning only for an open swing

and someone to play with,

A freethinker and a collection of energy,

Rebellious in nature but loving nonetheless.

A pre-teen,

Judged and slightly awkward,

Constantly aching for friends

and collecting attention like trinkets,

A caterpillar waiting to coccoon

and tuck itself into years to come.

A teenager,

Maladroit and judgmental,

Striving always to fit in

yet fitting in like a cast-aside puzzle piece,

Loud and obnoxious to seek attention,

Clinging to the nostalgia of childhood

yet impatient for adulthood all the same.

An adult,

Responsible and feigning carefree,

Laboring to make a decent living

while keeping up with longtime friends,

Balancing the fine line between work and play,

Taking an array of pills to dispose of stress,

Fighting the gray hairs yet welcoming wisdom.

A senior,

Aged and knowledgable,

Hoping only for a decent visitor,

Someone to share one's life stories with,

No longer having the stress of crowds,

Able to relax and pass the day away,

Having known all the joys and torment

that a lifetime could possibly hold.
