A Poem by HypnoticallyPoetic

Little wanna-be ghetto child,
open your eyes
you're beautiful without even trying
you're different
and its not your light skin
or "white" accent
it's YOU girl
your aura, your smile
they see it and fear it
hate you because they don't understand

Little curly haired girl,
look at you now!
If only you'd listened
when told youwere different
trying so hard
to fit into their box
but who defines normality?
Who decides that's what we should be?

Green eyed young lady,
a woman too soon
leaves you all confused
with a new body to abuse
tell me, who's using whom?
as you slip from the room
ashamed of an act you don't understand
then, to have it taken?
Can't blame you for being shaken
emotionally battered and bruised
but never broken- you're too strong for that
in fact

Stand up, Radiant woman
a girl-child no more
head to the sky
feet firmly on the floor
staring the future in the face
don't you know you're different?
You do, now
and ooohhh, child
what beauty awaits you
you're destined for greatness...
its yours
just reach out and take it
