Metamorphosis

Metamorphosis

A Poem by Hyorin

The winding paths of past and present,
Intertwined in chronological order,
You stood, as time made her advent,
Shophouses lost in discordant disorder.

You stood, as the zephyrs of change blasted,
Buildings of historical value obliterated.
You stood, as roads of tradition withered,
While skyscrapers gratuitously glowered.

You stood, as age claimed your kin last.
As torrents of dementia threatened to form.
You stand, resigned, in the eye of the storm,
as fleeting fugues mourn your past.

The wind screams, tears apart your dreams,
Your memories faded, your past a shattered shadow,
The monster sees a ragdoll, it seems,
And you are flung about haphazard,
But what will you do, when it holds you by its clutches?
