I live in the future you dream aboutA Story by HsiehWhat if you were a kid and you met your older self in a dream? What would you say to him?A young boy is passed out in a dark place. A young man pokes the young man's face. The young boy suddenly wakes up and coughs. The young man asks, “Are you okay, little boy?”, “I’m fine, who ar-” The young boy cuts himself off before looking at the young man’s face with a look of familiarity and curiosity. “I know who you are, Aiden. Do you know who I am?” The young man asked, “You look familiar as if I’ve seen you somewhere before.” Aiden said. The environment suddenly changes to an ocean waterfront, “You see, dreams are convenient, you can go anywhere in a dream. You can’t get hurt or die, you can only wake up, let’s talk here okay?” The young man said. Aiden still groggy said while rubbing his eyes “Talk about what? Who are you? You still haven’t told me.” “Let’s say that I am you from the future, what do you have to say?” The young man said while taking out a cigarette and lighting it. “That doesn’t answer it, enough beating around the bush!! Who are you!?” Aiden shouted. “I am you, is it that hard to understand?” The young man said with cigarette in hand. “Really? You’re really me?” Aiden questioned, “You don’t believe me, do you? I am you, you have a scar on your right knuckle and you have a mole on your right thigh, believe me now?” The young man said while taking a puff of his cigarette. Young Aiden asked Old Aiden a few questions and realised that the older figure was telling the truth: “How do I become more like you? You are so cool!” “This stubbornness you have will fade away; your craze and enthusiasm will cool down in due time.” Old Aiden said, “When you are older and going through the same mistakes again, I think you will learn to enjoy the process.” “What if I can’t change? What if I can’t keep up with my classmates?” the young one worriedly asked. The older figure said, taking a puff from his cigarette while leaning on the railing at the waterfront, “You must push yourself until your nose bleeds, be the very best of yourself, and hold onto your dreams stubbornly and not let them go.” “Looks like you are about to wake up, we will continue this another time, Aiden. Have a good morning, little Aiden.” Old Aiden waved with his cigarette in hand. The end
