Last Thoughts

A Poem by kingsley
"

Just some poetry about things in life that were left at a standstill.

"

Afternoons mostly felt

like an odd limbo in time.

Books left stacked in the window sill,

filled with the very words that taunted me.

The keys of the grandest piano,

untouched for over a year now.

The faintest hint of citrus

and clean linen linger here.

Silence lingers here now too.

Maybe the way sweet tea tastes

on a hot summer day,

or the sound of late October rain

in the depths of night

was more attractive.

Or was it something else?

Beyond the tall pines,

we schemed and daydreamed.

We were rain dancers,

insane lovers,

wonderers,

lost children.

Infatuated with the notion,

that the world was our oyster.

Life granted poetic moments

that must be held tight,

lest they slip away.

That's what you explained to me

in your subtle ways.

The faintest hint of a smile

lingers on my lips

as I linger on your last thoughts.
