Enemies and Lovers

By AJ Dru

This solitary silence, idle,

The space between enemies and lovers,

Has driven me to let go

Of the promises of others.

These incandescent souls shine bright

Like stars above the heavens,

Then shut down like a crashing kite

Under the cowardice of cravens

To be lost as a penny

In a pond, on a wish forgotten,

It's innocence all but rotten.

And seeing all the signs

Of another wasted life,

I'm grateful for the calm within

As the blurring whirl of time

Passes right on by...
