guess what!

guess what!

A Poem by Boyd Johnson

guess what!

your worst fears follow you everywhere.

theres no train

ive taken,

no trip,

ive made,

that lost them.

no drink,

that promised

they wouldnt

be there in the morning.

we all know its temporary.

we all know its just a clever trick.

that one is still gone.

this one,

still here,

surprisingly.

you still,

can't write.

but please,

dont let that stop you.

the clock,

still steals,

everything

and all.

nothing can be done about that.

well,

acid,

changes things up

a bit.

but thats about it.

guess what!

theres nothing

any of us

can do

about anything.

but,

its comforting,

occasionally,

to find

something,

that makes you forget,

that.

drink

women

smoke

acid

punk rock

acid

vinyl

old pictures

old poems

and that

umbrella,

you stole from the bar

with that girl,

who booted you out drunk,

the night

you crashed

your car.

guess what!

sometimes,

thats not enough.

but sometimes,

a road trip;

across state lines,

or through those boxes we all have under our beds,

and a drink,

can make it seem,

it is.

I think we've all been there. . . well, our own there. You have a wonderful poetic voice. You take us 'there'.
