Remember the fields
how the birds sang at night
how the mist arrived
from nowhere
to bless us and warm us
as we walked together
to form the sacred circle
A deer and a fox
stood vigil together
even the cows
on the other side
of the barbed wire
had the good sense
to move towards us
to bow their heads
to watch us dance
We held our breath
like careful children
making a secret wish
so quiet, so quiet
to keep the dream alive
One, two, three
We started turning
turning, turning
and whirling together
our luminous faces
turned up to the sky
and Joy leapt
into the world between
our linked arms and
our reeling hearts cried,
“let’s do it again and again!”
