The Talent Machine Part 1

The Talent Machine Part 1

A Story by Bill Deathshoes
"

A boy discovers a magical box containing a precious jewel in it, but little does he know it could help him in his life.

"
"Get lost, punk." Mitch forcefully said while pushing James into his locker. Mitch tugged on the poor boy's ear and put him in a chokehold. James couldn't stand it no more. Without hesitation he kicked Mitch's arm, forcing him to jolt it upwards letting James free. James scrambled to class, as he was late. He nearly passed the art room. Walking in gently a large amount of high school students turned their heads to the sound of footsteps entering the room so late. James glared up at his teacher, with his arms crossed and an angry expression on his face. Without a word James walked to his desk and plopped himself down in his surprisingly uncomfortable seat. The whole class was lifeless and zoned as James looked at his rear end to find a torn up piece of paper that was his artwork. "I'm sorry James, but they didn't enjoy your artwork very much." Jim bowed his head down and pulled out the piece of paper that he spend his dear time creating. A few days ago James entered an art competition, but they thought his artwork was terrible so they ripped it up. After school James ran home, torn up about his very limited achievements. James was never a boy with a talent. He never seemed to find anything he was good at. James was walking, almost stomping his way back home when he noticed a moving figure behind the smelly garbage can in front of the McDonalds house. The entire McDonalds family disappeared about 40 years ago, and their house had been abandoned ever since. The house itself gave James chills, with the bent over trees, to the weed filled cobblestone path that lead to the decayed door. The ghostly black figure flashed as quick as lightning once again, whipping a small object towards horrified James. It tumbled across the road and hit the curb on the other side. It was a light brown box with a golden padlock that seemed to reflect the shimmering light from the sun. James hurried over and stuck the box in his schoolbag hanging from his shoulder. He rushed home, ignored his parents questions, and zipped open his schoolbag to reveal it. The box itself was almost as decayed as the house, but it had a padlock that required a key. James looked around frantically, filled with curiosity of what was inside the slightly heavy box. James then exhaled when he knew he couldn't open this box. An idea flickered in his head to ask his parents. They know a lot of things, right? James trampled down the staircase only to interrupt the conversation his dear parents were having. "Yes James?" His mother asked. "Well, I found a box in front of the McDonalds house and I decided to ask you how to open a padlock without a key." The words poured out of the boy's mouth quicker than ever before. "Bust it." James'
father suggested. James was filled with anticipation later as his father took a hammer and slammed it into the padlock, popping the top part of the lock straight off. "Wow." James said, surprised by the immense strength the hammer had. He slowly opened up the lid and gasped. It was a jewel just sitting there. The jewel was striped with different kinds of precious items. One quarter was diamond, one was emerald. It sparkled beautifully sending off beams of light in different colors. James picked the jewel up in his hand and played around with it, feeling it's complicated shape in his hands. Then he noticed something. The jewel had a thin rope looped through it. "Must be a necklace." James dad wondered. James put the rope around his neck, letting the jewel hang. It felt magical, almost like it was giving power to his body. "What a beauty," He whispered.
