I think where folks get confused is in understanding the difference between an obsession and lust ... At times the two words carry pretty much the same meaning, but at the same time these two words can convey and carry two completely different meanings ... A man who is obsessed with a woman does so because he clearly lusts after her ... If he did not lust, then there would be no obsession ... Men lust after women, and vice versa, money, power, position, fame, etc., and because they do, the acquisition of these things often becomes a blinding obsession to them ... When they acquire them, the obsession dies down due to the fact that the thrill was in the chase and in the battle for conquest and victory ... Once achieved, most people lose interest, finding that their achievement did not bring them the satisfaction they sought, and so move on to other things to lust after and obsess over ... So, you have penned it pretty true to reality, as the only thing we should obsess over is living, for we are born with a powerful obsession for life and living straight from the womb with that first cry of protest of having some stranger whack us on the arse ... From that instant we become obsessed with two things: Life and living, and not wanting anymore strangers whacking on our behinds ... As you can see by my babbling, I enjoyed your heart penned to page, as you inspired me to rambling on and on ...

I really like this topic- I struggle with the next best thing that i think will satisfy me.
To contrast this, its interesting to think of obsessions that fuel our fire for life. What about obsession about art- obsession about creative discipline. Just some of my thoughts.
Even an obsession/thought process that is satisfied and released with writing.
I'd love to hear more about how the struggle takes place within you. Physically, emotional- and how our minds can be transformed into a sane state once again.

Obsession can be good and bad, though if it becomes too much, like getting ouf hand, it might turn into something disastrous. I wrote a poem about obsession, too once. I removed it from here because I didn't like it that much. (it needs a rewrite maybe)
Well elaborated topic.

Self control isn't always the easiest thing to attain at times but I'm getting there...I hope lol. I would very much like to see your revised (or old) poem and see your take on it :) thank you for your cimments, much appreciated

a very true write on the subject of 'obsession '... the whole poem conveys the exact same feeling of what an obsessed person feels...it is something that many people feel these days...people get obsessed about simple things and ultimately loose the true meaning of life... . short and very to the point subject which made it very catchy.... overall a very good work.... full ratings....

It's a nice topic chosen and I am sure a lot more can be added to this piece. Though at the moment, I couldn't see it as a poem. Maybe because some words could have easily been avoided.
for example : "Obsession, an illness " (no need for is)
similarly "All focus gone" (no need for is)
In poetry we can do away with some of the verbs or prepositions as long as the meaning is portrayed properly and doesn't sound weird.
Again I feel the last verse could be tweaked a little, cut down words. Less is more sometimes. I had the same problem at first as well( sometimes i still do), so I can understand this one well.
And the repetition of the word obsession serves no purpose as such. The word could be replaced with "it" the second time it is mentioned. The flow doesn't seem that natural and it sounds forced.
