Trace the Lines

Trace the Lines

A Poem by Lexi Nicole
"

And next time that we meet I'll let you trace the lines.

"

I didn’t want to lose you
Not again, you see
So I pulled my heart out of my chest
And I watched it beat
And it played all our memories
Like it was a movie screen
I saw you smile, laugh and sing
Just as it used to be

And as I watched the movie play
Over the beating screen
I felt a tear fall down my cheek
For the life I used to lead

You were once my world
And you’re still my everything
And though I wear this mask so well
So that they cannot see
I feel the pain of losing you
Every day and night
I tend to wake in darkness now
Because you were my light

I wish that I could hear your voice
Or touch your gentle skin
I wish that we had had the choice
But we were worn so thin

Mom and Dad
They feel it too
I see it in their eyes
And in their movements and their words
The way they light on photographs
As if they were as real
As the flesh that hugs our bones
And binds us in this deal

I miss you, honey
Every day
I miss that little boy
That could brighten up the darkest day
And turn hatred into joy

I’ve got the thread to sew my chest
I’ve placed my heart inside
And next time that we meet, little love
I’ll let you trace the lines

I don't care about the grammar, or the meter or the rhyme. I care about the boy this is about. I care about how much I love him, and how much I miss him.

You never fail to impress. Seriously, you're better than I am! You just have a magnificent way with words. "I tend to wake in darkness now
Because you were my light." That line is simply beautiful. I can't explain it. The last stanza is pure magic. Again, you never cease to amaze. (: Great job.
