The Other Side of Town

The Other Side of Town

A Poem by Lexi Nicole
"

Yet on the other side of town, in a beautiful, sparkling gown, I saw her with her hand lighting on his arm.

"

The clouds came rolling in
On a perfect summer day
Crying rain upon my
Beautiful parade

I saw the dancers drenched,
Their skirts stuck to their skin
And the confetti plastered
To the asphalt in colorful disarray

My floats were sadly drowning
In the sobbing rain
And the marching band
Simply refused to play

Yet on the other side of town
In a beautiful, sparkling gown
I saw her with her hand
Lighting on his arm

Yes, on the other side of town
She twirled in that lovely gown
With the sun shining down
Through his smile

On the other side of town
There came a different sound
He danced her through the streets
Never glancing at my sad parade

Blissfully they danced
On the other side of town
Blissfully they sang
On the other side of town

I tugged at my gray frock
All the color washed away
Wishing it were that gown
On the other side of town

I touched my shivering arms
Wet from heaven’s tears
Wishing it were his hand
Stroking my pale skin

My tears melded with the rain
My heart swelling with such pain
As he dipped her down
Then I had to look away

I twirled towards my parade
So sad, and wet, and gray
And raised my arms
And raised my voice so loud

My dancers pointed graceful toes
And the marching band did play
The floats began to drift along
The ribbon of the street

I belted out a cheery tune
And led the way down Main Street
Spinning in the raindrop swirls
Catching them in my palms

The music rose high in the air
The dancers swayed to the tune
I marched with my head held high
To the other side of town

Oh, what a sight I must have been
A sad, pale girl in gray
Marching with my dull parade
To the other side of town

She was still twirling in her gown
Holding his hand tight
And I just marched on passed them
Oh, I must have been a sight

I took my parade right through
The other side of town
My storm clouds trailing after me
Releasing rainy applause

I looped my parade all around
The other side of town
Oh, what I sight I must have been
On the other side of town

And when I came back into
My side of the town
The streets were filled with people
And their cheers swelled in my ears

Yes, what I sight I truly was

On the other side of town
But how wonderful I felt
Back on my side of the town

The grass is greener on the other side. Until I march through it.
Written in response to something going on in my life right now. I needed to do something to make myself feel better, and writing is always the most logical thing. Comments and crit greatly appreciated :)

This is amazing. Immediately made its way onto my list of all time favorites. The imagery was fantastic. And I loved the story line. At first I thought that she would continue talking about how miserable her side was and keep watching them and stay sad, but I was excited when she did something about it. Excellent, excellent piece of work. I couldn't give it more praise. Very well written. 100%

This is beautifully written. I especially loved your imagery: "sobbing rain", "my storm clouds trailing after me", "rainy applause". Love it.
