Lighting sliced the sky in two the very moment I met you.
Lighting sliced the sky in two
The very moment I met you
Wading through the water
That swallowed up your waist
Holding out your hand and assuring me
Everything would be ok
The moonlight kissed your cheek
When you lowered yourself to your knee
And held my hand tenderly
As you showed me the ring
And asked with a quavering voice
“Will you marry me?”
The sunlight couldn’t shine as bright as you
Standing at the altar smiling at me
Tears pricked at our eyes
When we made our vows
And you kissed me so softly
The wind howled in the world outside
But within the walls
The only thing to exist
Were you and I
Bare and exposed
Mapping each other’s bodies
So we’d always know
Stars danced in the sky
As I gripped your hand tight
And pushed through pain
And brought into this world
A baby with your name
And he was settled in your arms
And you looked to be with a double-wide grin
So proud that we had created him
Thunder rolled within the clouds
As we waited in the dark room
Holding one another’s hand
And the doctor walked in
With his eyes lowered and dim
And gave us the prognosis
“Six months to live.”
Rain sounded on the window
As I wrote down my will
And scribbled a note
That I tacked on the door
For you to find later
After I was no more
Clouds drifted in the sky
As you sat by my side
Our son behind you
The spitting image of you
Tears in his eyes
And I told you both
To be strong for me
And I closed my eyes
What would be would be
Night settled quickly
I watched from the sky
As you went through a house
A size too big for you
And flipped off the lights
And talked absently
As if I were next to you
And you came to your office
Found a note on the door
You must have missed all the times before
You unfolded it carefully
Holding it as if it were gold
And you read what I scrawled
“Lighting sliced the sky in two
The very moment I met you...”
AMAZING I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT! you always were a good poet Howl, and this proves it. I especially love how it ends, sort of starting over again. it really is amazing. it's bittersweet of course, but they loved each other. and that's what matters. :D keep it up!
The imagery and emotions were so powerful, I was captivated by every line. This was a very sweet, touching poem. The woman was so loved, and she lived her life to its fullest, loving and learning...
It makes me wonder if I'll leave this world with no regrets, and it reminds me to not take a single thing for granted - not the stars, the storm, or the people in my life. This was empathetic, soulful, beautiful.
This was so wonderful..and no though it was sad ,but somehow i was happy..
I was happy for him to find a woman made of gold..to stand by him ,even if swallowed upto her waist
She will give him a hand,so humble as to lower herself to her knees and ask him to take her for life
then it was decided that he is not to live much more ,so she just sat besides him with her child
now knowing how to let go of a man she lived to make him happy..what more can one expect
thats why I was happy ,for you tell of few so kind and lovely that you see these days..
you tell of some love you rarely see these days..
i really loved this..written so nicely ,so emotionally..
lovely write..
