One Thing To Say

One Thing To Say

A Poem by Lexi Nicole
"

When the dust finally settles we stand on opposite sides.

"

There is but one thing to say

When the dust finally settles
We stand on opposite sides
And this time I see a glimmer
Of fear within your eyes

Because you no longer trust me
Because you know you’ve wronged me

You stammer and stutter
And look away from me
And this time I see a tremble
Work its way down your spine

Because you know you’ve failed me
Because you know you’ll lose

You remove your mask
Strip away your lies
And this time I see
The truth in your eyes

Because you’re nothing but a coward
Because you know you’re a disgrace

With some sense of courage
You turn to walk away
And this time I see a chance

There is but one thing to say

It's strange, those thoughts are what's been floating around in my head for the past few weeks. The italised font are what I don't want to cross my mind, but does. And the standard font is what I want to just scream in this guys face or whisper in his ear, whatever will get through his thick skull! Ha, well thank you for this read, it's supremely well done, I'm always happy to read something that fits into my then-mind.

I like the way this is set up. One the one side you have what comes across as compassion tinged with regret and on the other side you have what seems like harsh criticism. Excellently done.
