Pretend

Pretend

A Poem by Lexi Nicole
"

Pretend that I was never there.

"

When you rise in the morning
And the first thing that you see
Are my eyes in your mirror
Take in a breath
And tie on your blindfold
And pretend that I was never there

When you walk down the street
And look down at your shadow
And think it looks a lot like me
Turn away and look ahead
And pretend that I was never there

When you pick up the phone tonight
And expect to hear my voice
Shake your head to clear your mind
And pretend that I was never there

Wherever I may find you
Whatever way I haunt you
Find a way to make yourself believe
I never existed

Tell yourself that I’m a ghost
A figment of the past
Thrive on lies
Forget the times
I made your world complete

No story you string
Will ever stop me
From finding you

So go about your day
With a smile plastered on your face
And a lie nestled in your heart
And try and make yourself believe
That I was never there

It won’t stop me from haunting you.
