Differences

Differences

A Poem by Lexi Nicole
"

I don't look down or scoff, I just think there's something more to life than buying a designer top.

"

I’m not a little puppet
Dancing on your string
What gave you the idea
That you could control me?
Your trends don’t interest me
I hate the stupid way you talk
With “uh” and “like” and “oh my god”
Sprinkled in your speech
You’ve got so much make-up on
Your skin is tinted orange
Which doesn’t really mix well
With the hot pink of those
Barely-there clothes
Hip-hop music pounding in your ears
You laugh when I listen to rock
And you just can’t understand
Why I’d rather sit at home
With a book in my hand
Than head to the mall with you
I have nothing against you
I don’t look down or scoff
I just think there’s something more to life
Than buying a designer top
I don’t need to fit in with your crowd
To get myself respect
I’m comfortable in my skin
I don’t need the school to know my name
To feel like I belong
My dear, look at the differences
Between me and you

There's a lot of pressure on girls today to look and act a certain way. Well, I have nothing against all the people who conform, but I'm quite proud to say that I'm my own person. ^^

Excellent. I definitely understand what you are talking about. The fact that you can come out like that and not be all bitchy (like i would have done ;-]) is comendable. I comend you!

Wow. This blew me away. I can totally relate to most, if not everything, in this poem. It flows really well and your point is very well expressed. Just...wow.

Wow, this is amazing. You are SO skilled at getting your point through, and your point is SO TRUE!
This is going in my favorites. You have guts, girl! I mean, people like to say that they're different and their own person, but I can tell through this poem that you really are.
What pressures the words like 'style' and 'fashion' put on girls and guys these days. This is so true.
One of my favorite parts was this;
"You laugh when I listen to rock
And you just can't understand
Why I'd rather sit at home
With a book in my hand
Then head to the mall with you
I have nothing against you
I don't look down or scoff
I just think there's something more to life
Then buying a designer top"
Very well done. I like how you accented your tastes and flavors and you are willing to stand up for them.
I can see that I need to read more of your work. I am not easily impressed, but this impressed me.
Hurrah for you!
