looking glass

A Poem by houseswediein

when standing next to her, i can't help but
compare your real curves to her fictional ones
and wonder how closely you resemble one another.
if your hair curls just like hers, if her nose is as cute as yours
if her breasts lay so pert, if your legs stand so strong.
but as with any eye-to-eye and ear-to-ear,
there is consideration of what we lack.
her and i, we lack pettiness, we lack difference, we lack the cognitive disconnect.
you and i, we lack problems, we lack similarity, we lack passion.
we lack passion.
reflected in her green-blue eyes i see myself unfurled
reflected in your chocolate browns i see just love
bare and whole but new and immature, love for love's sake
but for now it keeps me warm.
and like two sisters who grow to resemble one another
i only hope that time will be as kind to you as it was to her and i.
but passing on that dream is all i have,
hoping our folie-a-deux will bring you 'round and
keep our feet as evenly rooted to the earth.
