To my DeansA Poem by Courtney HoughMy son is the namesake for my Uncle Ron Dean who died of cancer at 49. This is dedicated to them.
To my Deans
I see you in him, It’s been seven years. But so much lately, I feel you here. God knew to send him, It was no mistake. There’s so much he does, He’s the perfect name sake. He uses his left hand, He loves to watch the fish. He has this spark for life, And a little to do list. He has things from us, From his Mom and Dad. But this I hope for him, The biggest power you have. That he’ll have your strength, He will not let go. He knows what he wants, And what he will control. Through his trials, You will guide the way. Because you never really left. You’re here every day. As he grows, His compassion will beam. He will be a friend to all, His shoulder you can lean. I hope he lives! Full and free! Just like you did, Not short...but quality. And when that time comes, To be with us all again. An overflow will be opened, Because the strength of a friend. He will touch many, Never turn them away. Holding out his hand, Never cast them astray. I miss you often, But the heartbreak is less. Each time I see my boy, Or pick up his little mess. Though trials are still here, And we are in the present. We all will watch him grow, Present every second. And now my life is full, With the physical and unseen. Thanks to both of you, The special boys; Dean. © 2020 Courtney Hough |
