The Truth

The Truth

A Poem by Courtney Hough

Depression,
It is not selfish like you think.
No, wanting to make others “normal.”
That is what is selfish.
Those usually down,
It’s because they understand what you don’t.
Why call them selfish if they choose to leave?
Wouldn’t it be worse to keep them alive.
We relate to those in commas,
Our medicine is what breathes for us.
The medical staff is people watching us.
We stay here for you,
All the while dying every day.
Our souls hurt and cry,
Seeing the world and how it is.
We know this is not happiness,
False securities in material things.
But we are different
So we need medicine.
Please...no more...let me go.

amen, amen, amen live it daily -- the life of an abnormal; "meds are our breath of life" couldn't have worded it better, glass of wine raised to someone who depicts the tattered road traversed too frequently, thank you

I really like the genuine words gently laid.
And the well expressed truthfulness in all the lines in this real life poem. Even with the last lane that made me hopelessly sad, it is very well written!

Stay well, Courtney.
