Mess

Mess

A Poem by Courtney Hough

A tear from my eye,

As I look at my skin.

Hating what it’s become,

Why can’t I ever win?

Ugly I feel,

Overweight is what I see.

No pretty smile,

Why does this happen to me?

I don’t want to be out,

I’m not comfortable in this skin.

How I long to be beautiful,

Shorter and very thin.

It’s like my sickness is worse,

And my body is reflecting what I feel.

Depression and self doubt,

Portraying what is real.

Everyday this feels worse,

And I love myself less.

My god what has this world done,

I’m now a complete mess.

This is a subject that just about everyone can relate to on one level or another. I usually don't like rhyming patterns. People sacrifice quality lines for cheap rhymes a lot of times. You did neither. You stuck to the subject and gave good thoughts on it. Thank you for sharing.

The search for beauty has ever been a bane, causing women to do, and even worse but always constant, think, harmful stuff to themselves. Whether it's during the lead-based cosmetics of the Victorian era or the starving of oneself in modern times, it takes a physical toll. The worst aspect though, is the one in the mind, the thought that one's appearance can somehow make them less valued. Superb poem, it was a pleasure to read.

No problem. Thanks for sharing your words.
I like your poem it's so true when you feel low you start to hate the way you look too, exercise helps, I was watching the Kardashians (don't know if you watch) but the brother Rob had depression etc and was overweight, he started getting on the treadmill and tackling his weight problem, I thought it was really inspiring and he encouraged me to get fitter too - walking for me is one of the best, clears the head and helps you loose weight too - best wishes
