The Tower

The Tower

A Poem by Courtney Hough

Once upon a time,
in the world of now.
Lives a beautiful Princess,
who knew she couldn’t bow.

She’d been locked,
not saved from the tower.
Waiting for a prince,
hour by hour.

Many Knights tried,
but none could make the climb.
Most of them fell, gave up,
each and every time.

One Prince made it,
promised he’d be back.
Such joy had the Princess,
time seemed to lose track.

The Prince never came,
but others did.
His promise still haunts,
just another fib.

Again and again it happens,
this is becoming her life.
She’s used to this now,
lies sharper then a knife.

One Prince promised never to stop trying,
silly little Princess to trust.
His lies were a dagger,
deepens with every thrust.

Send’s her a "I’m sorry Princess,"
"Why?" confused answering back.
But he left her with no answer,
while yet again another heart attack.

The towers so empty,
she longs to trust someone.
But honestly how can she?
When lying’s all they’ve ever done.

Trapped in the big tower,
with trust and happiness fading.
Will a Prince ever show her, prove her wrong?
She’ll answer herself with the day’s she is waiting.

Will there be a happily ever?

Good poem. I pictured the tower as a wall of protection from fears and troubles, but it was two faced. The wall was also the problem... It was like a box that imprisoned all the chaos that the princess faced.
