Uncertainty is all I SeeA Poem by Michelle EarlWritten from the point of view of a kidnapped child.
I’m playing in my yard, not meaning any harm.
I don’t think there’s a cause for alarm.
Then suddenly a stranger appears nearby
Tall enough to reach the sky.
“Would you like some candy?” She smiles.
I look toward the house and think a while.
“Your mommy and daddy told me to come.”
“They want me to take you to have some fun.”
I look at the house again, but then she becomes mean.
“Come now!” She grabs me, and I start to scream.
“Mommy! Mommy!” I sob uncontrollably.
Mommy comes out to see what’s happening to me.
The woman is to fast for her; mommy can’t catch us.
“Mommy! Mommy!” I continue to fuss.
She tells me that mommy doesn’t want me anymore.
I don’t know what to believe, so I cry some more.
“Quiet!” She says, “I’m your mommy now.”
“When we get home, you’ll like it somehow.
I want my mommy my home, me
But uncertainty is all I see.
