A Poem by Dano

A darkness looms on the horizon
At the edge of perception
The white coats tell a different story as
The first signs of summer approach
There's a sweetness to the air
A scent of love drifting through the despair
We cherish the new arrivals but
Our hearts are consumed with sorrow
With grief when we witness a departure
The rains have returned once more
A crying newborn masks the sadness of loss
Regret wraps around words left unsaid
Forever I sit, hoping to go with you
I'll crumble, I cant . . . I'm not strong enough
The tears begin to fall as the monitor flat lines

A world collapses as death waits
The first few drops fall unnoticed but
As the air fills with a scent of blood
All eyes fall upon a body slumped over
Wrists dangling above the crimson below
Death retreats with his spoils of war
Sorrow tightens around all in the room
As the sun dawns revealing a beautiful morning

This very sad and yet beautiful. It flowed elegantly as I read it and called to mind images of a woman giving birth in a hospital, but losing her life in the process of giving another. Very sad indeed, but beautiful. Great job on this!
