Auteur Inconnu (Author Unknown)

A Poem by Dano

Good morning, a whispered shout
Dear you've never looked this way
There's no glint in your eyes
Have you gone away
Please god i pray let him save them
Just once let him come home a hero
Don't cover his hands in their blood
Please god i pray let this be his last night away

I miss you, the front lines have fallen
I fear this might be the last you hear of me
For some time i have wondered what you would do without me
Could you move on, would you want to
I love you my dearest

(My love this is the beginning
It seems {I was wrong} the end is near,
I even have hopes of seeing you again)

Elaine,
I regret to inform you that your husband
has been killed in action. His bravery has
saved the lives of countless soldiers.
    Sincerely,
                Auteur Inconnu

Interesting thoughts. I'd like to ask why the lack of grammar in the first three stanzas? Especially the i instead of I? I think it detracts, but I am a stickler for that sort of thing. And is there any place that actually signs those sorts of notes Auteur Inconnu? I don't suppose it matters in the end, its never fair. I leave you with one of my favourite poems, written by a Zimbabwean poet named Chenjerai Hove, for some further insight into the matter:

A WAR-TORN WIFE

This war!
I am tired
of a husband who never sleeps
guarding the home or on call-up,
never sleeping!

Maybe inside him he says
‘I am tired of a wife
who never dies
so I could stop guarding’.
