A Robin

A Robin

A Poem by Dano

She was unknown trapped
Within walls that were meant to protect
Behind the shifting smiles
Within memories of love
A madness held onto him
Inside it was taking hold
Strategic and slow
The calm before the storm
He witnessed the dawn
A son
Blue eyed and frail
In me he saw
A vision only he could know
913 days had gone
I was barely walking
She carried a daughter within
The moment came
I wasn't strong just
Blue eyed and frail
She was stalwart for three
Red breasted ready to fly
The madness inside him
Had clipped her wings
Years ago
Madness took hold
He was lost taken from us
Snuffed like a candle
The madness took root
A husband a father a family
No more
Red breasted and unsteady
She knew the time had come
She took flight
Through the raging squall
She survived
A cold world she braved alone
Steadfast and firm she raised
A son unwavering and blue eyed
A daughter beautiful and resolute
The best we could ever be
It was her
A Mother Our Family
She saved us all
For her we thrive
