Emma

Emma

A Poem by Dano

A fist bursts the red from your tired face
The tears provide a bitter reprieve
Pinned to the wall your soul shakes
His fingers rough and scarred
They wrap around your delicate neck
Squeezing, your muscles tighten
Your lungs begin to burn
Your eyes stained and soaked
Begging him to stop
Begging for a breath
His biceps ripple as you struggle
The black bleeds away your vision
Your swinging leg connects
For an instant life floods back in
As his hold over you yields
One ragged breath is all you get
As he regains his composure
Again he grabs your delicate neck
With both hands he pulls you from the wall
He begins to squeeze and you feel something
In your neck pop this time
Before the darkness can take you
You catch a glimpse of your child peering in
Tears stream down her quivering face
With his hands still strangling you
He throws you with all his force into the wall
This time you feel something snap
As you black out

"One ragged breathe is all you get
As he regains his composure" my two favorite lines. Well done, paints a realistic picture especially since you added the part about children witnessing domestic violence.
