TreeA Poem by KatInspired by spoken word poetry. One day, I was looking at a tree In my neighbor’s front yard. This tree had brown rough bark And healthy green leaves. I said, “Tree You are just like me.” You have been lost and directed. You have been hurt and you have been mended. When you were little, you were told where to go and tied to
a stake with a piece of string. You were told that the only place to go from here is up,
little tree. But make sure you do it this way So that you do not grow crooked. You were watered and you were nurtured. One day, you grew so big and so high that no one, no one
could tell you how to be. You started to stretch your branches where you pleased, And from that time on, you no longer had to appease Anyone. They could no longer tell you who to be. Tree, you are just like me.” © 2015 KatAuthor's Note
