to gaia, from selene

to gaia, from selene

A Poem by Bethany Reilmann

i see the tears in your eyes at night,

the sobs stifled into pillows and plains.

i watch poison seep into your core

as I wish honey would instead.

i have to stand by as people cut into you,

extort you, and build upon you in greed"

i am too far away,

and my shouting is never heard.

tide after tide, day after day,

you're being destroyed by those who call you "beautiful"

and in the next breath blow smoke in your face,

throw punches with brass knuckles

and hold your hand over an open flame.

i have kicked and screamed to get close to you,

but whenever I do I am pushed far away,

out of sight, out of mind"

but i still see it all, oh dear one,

i know how this all ends.

and the worst part of it all?

they won't stop until you're gone.

I enjoyed this poem and I wanted to know more. The words and thoughts hard and painful. Somethings cannot be forgotten or left behind. Thank you Bethany for sharing the excellent poetry.
