A Poem by Bethany Reilmann
"

A peek into my heart on a night when love didn't go my way.

"

leaning forward,

stone cutting into palms and fingers,

"he's waiting for you just on the other side".

leaning still until I fall,

the stagnant water catching me, caressing me.

all of my spent wishes surround me--

nickels, dimes, drachmas,

fallen stars and birthday candles.

"he's here darling, look".

i spin to meet a fading shadow,

and i sigh in defeat:

i am alone once again.

raw lungs and dry throat

i climb my way up to the sky

like a soldier returns from war

only to dust myself off,

clean myself up,

and prepare to fall back down again.

Nice journey in your words. You allowed the reader to feel the places and thoughts. I did like the ending. Trying again. Thank you Bethany for sharing the amazing poetry.
