For the Love of an Idiot

For the Love of an Idiot

A Poem by Holly Soques
"

Unrequited love, or the uncertainty of first love, has never been so painful as in those first few days of oblivion.

"

Unnoticed,

Unappreciated,

Unloved.

Not quite synonyms,

except when my love

is unnoticed.

He's smart, sure

and even quite handsome,

but what idiot can miss

my hints?

I laugh, I giggle,

I even wink flirtatiously.

Short of inking a thesis

and breaking my voice from the rooftops,

what more can a girl do?

Immature,

Insecure,

Insincere.

Not quite synonyms,

except when my frail, quivering ego

makes my advances appear insincere.

He's understanding, sure,

and even gentle in character,

but what idiot can fail

to see my love?

Need I spell it out?

Risk my heart, health, and rep

for an idiot who may not even agree

to be mine?

For all his faults, his clueless oblivion,

I can't help being hopelessly lovestruck

for him, my dearest Idiot.

some guys can be so oblivious they can't see what's right in front of them. he may not necessarily be ignoring you, but if it keeps happening you should just move on. great job.

I really, really love that final line. "My dearest idiot". There is something altogether endearing about it :) I do think boys are idiots most times in that department, though :P
I like this poem a lot. It is simple, but conveys its meaning very effectively. The use of three single word sentences lends it a certain grace. And also the line "short of inking a thesis" made me laugh. I'm sorry if I shouldn't have, but I did :P

Very nice poem :)

If you have to work that hard to get his attention, he's not worth your energy.

But then again, as you hint at in your last stanza, you don't choose who you're naturally attracted to.

Great piece

I really like it. Guys are clueless anyway. If this were talking of your true feelings, I'd suggest you just tell him. If not, then it doesn't matter what I suggest, lol. Either way, Great poem :)
