Another glass?

Another glass?

A Poem by Holly Soques
"

Does alcohol really affect us? Or do we affect alcohol with our human sentimentalities? Just something to ponder on while the wine is swirled.

"

The tinted red

swirls

in a glass half empty.

Neither Merlot nor Bordeaux,

maybe something in between;

I'm no connoisseur.

The light is refracted, reflected,

rebounds back at me.

Glittering, shimmering, sparkling at me.

Crash! ... tinkle.

Glass is shattered,

shards irreparable,

and the precious red spreads.

The imagery of this piece is really amazing, and I can picture how the glass of alcohol whispers out the name of an addict. Clever piece, especially with the ending. That part was a perfect ending for this amazing write. Keep it up.

Too true. But I've always wondered why people started drinking in the first place. To forget about the troubles of real life? Probably. Because the thing is, if people discovered alcohol today, it would be classified as a dangerous, addictive substance, possibly even illegal for public consumption. The only reason we today drink in social situations is because we have become so used to the idea of using alcohol as a 'social lubricant', that to even suggest otherwise is tantamount to being antisocial. And then the media portrayals of alcohol suggest to our subconscious mind that using/abusing alcohol when we're really just feeling sad is alright, even normal, and that's where the real danger lies.

i believe that alcohol affects us. wine especially makes you uninhibited. if a glass is shattered by the drinker then they've had too much. it could also make a fool out yourself if you don't drink in moderation. but despite all this people will always have another glass of wine.

It's like the glass is your fragile heart and the wine is the precious blood within. Our hearts are easily shattered. I know from experience. I really like it. Though I may not see it as you intended, lol. Still, Great work :)

I do love the imagery in this poem. I do believe you have a way with words. The wine sounds so beautiful. All beautiful things can shatter like glass.
