The noticing

The noticing

A Poem by lizardbrain

All aspects of life are that one ear
that is floppier than the other

All of the eyelashes that I have
plucked out before their prime

The dry skin by the corner of
my eye that just won't heal

The first little patch of her old-dog
elbow coming in - dark and soft,
but hairless, rubbed bare

My cuticles that are slightly less
roughed up than usual
A promising sign of effective stress management

That little scar above her eye
that grew lighter-colored hair

The nicks on my hands that reflect
a certain air of carelessness

And the blisters on my toes
that show a different kind.

The way her muzzle greyed
before I even brought her home

And the dark spots on the velvety
baby-skin insides of her ears
that I'm not sure were there before

Blemishes of the skin
Creating little tender spots
on my mind
That will fade with time
But it is in the noticing.

poets notice these things...the little details...for us that is the crux of life...much more than the obvious.
i really like your style...also liked "Cut diamond pond" and the conversational method of presentation in that one.
