Thumb cut

Thumb cut

You reminded me that haphazard is not

always the best or funnest way

That doing things you love could be ruined

in an instant

Not that that happened, you’re pretty minor

but still

Writing with a closed fist

Is uncomfortable

It’s remarkable that I can form these complex

little lines with such low dexterity

Wow, it’s happening

thumb cut, you really scared me, you know

that?

I thought I sliced right to the bone

Thanks for bleeding so much

Blood is cleansing

Thumb cut, I’m not even sure this is a

poem anymore

But you sure do have more character

than other finger injuries I’ve had

I guess that’s why I really don’t mind you

as much as I thought I would.

You came about in the pursuit of something

great.

A little blood sacrificed for the cedar harvest

Or just a dumb person with poor knife habits.

Someone else can decide.

Thumb cut, thanks for putting me

in my place.

It’s such a small price to pay,

Thumb cut.
