A Junkie Stuck

A Junkie Stuck

A Poem by David

Need

Want

Must have

Caffeine

Nicotine

Cocaine

Adrenaline

Gasoline to make it leave

The days go by

The heart turns cold

Mem'ries hurt

My love is old

She's gone

He's gone

They're both alone

A world of pain

Sometimes of glee

But neither work

For you and me

So, I sit

And breathe my death

A junkie stuck

Beneath her breast

Wow I really like this! =O
It flowed perfectly, with a fast yet lulling cadence. Much like the drive of a junkie and the fall of that speed once they've gotten their fix. It really enhanced the feel of the poem, making it feel more authentic.
At first I wasn't sure, in the first stanza with the one word lines. But, as I read, they all melted perfectly together and the mild rhyme... it was almost intoxicating. Brilliant! The tragedy was woven deep within each line~
The last two lines were, by far, my favourites. They summed it up so perfectly.
Beautiful!

"Gasoline to make it leave" Wonderful line. I love the way this was written. You used so few words but had such such a strong point.
