The Night

The Night

A Poem by David

A cold breeze and a cold beer

Last night God told me there is nothing to fear

A warm fire and a warm heart

The devil has nothing to do with this part

Take a look around at the faces in the woods

Memories remain of everything that could

We grow and grow and swim through life

Only to be met by much more strife

It gets hard

I mean it gets really hard

No one can understand

I'm telling you no one

Not even God will answer

It'll be the toughest time

Some people make it through

Some people don't

Some people just give up

I mean,

We all die anyways

But...

I remember the night God told me it's okay

He reached down and touched me and said, "I won't let you stray"

I took His hand and walked into the night to be with friends

Nothing could've swayed me, not the strongest winds

Now I sit here writing this wondering where He is

It seems He always disappears whenever I'm like this

I'll be sitting here waiting to hear His voice

Hoping He will come before there is no other choice

Your poem is sad, so sad.. but may i tell you something i read some time ago.. you might know it already:-

A man was walking along a sandy beach, complaining to God that He'd deserted him when He was needed. The man stopped for a few seconds, looking around, saw his lone footprints on the sand, said to God, ' If you were with me you'd be walking alongside. '

The voice of God rang out, 'When times are bad I'm always with you. you don't see my footsteps alongside yours, because, my son, I'm carrying you.'

H.
God comes every so often to touch us. Times like those, though--you have to go touch him.

Wow.
This is amazing. I have been exactly in the place you describe here, and you bring it all rushing back full force.

These lines are wonderful,
"I remember the night God told me it's okay
He reached down and touched me and said, "I won't let you stray"
I took His hand and walked into the night to be with friends
Nothing could've swayed me, not the strongest winds"

Thank you so much for sharing this!
