Heaven's Above and Below

Heaven's Above and Below

A Poem by David
"

A poem about the search for religion.

"

How long has it been?  Since forever started, I've waited.
Finally, you caught up to me.  My life is now serrated/
not a straight-edged razor.
I feel so... unforsaken.  Undertaking the fascists in my soul.
My inspiration/ to lay down the law.
My motivation/ through it all.
Cry for me.  I'll be there waiting on your doorstep.
For all this time I've looked for you.  Now I've found you/
and peppermints taste sour.
I feel so... mutilated.  I've avoided this song for way too long.
My soul you own now/ do what you will.
Your turn to take a bow/ This is how I feel.
After waiting, I look at you and cry.
You are my reason, to live or to die.
All this spilled blood for me?
I look at you.  I don't understand.
Hold me here, forever now.
How long has it been, since I've found you now?  You were lost when I did.
Calm down child, I'm here now.  Tell me where it hurts/ but/
I don't know what will come of this.
I feel so... irritated.  Calibrate the feelings I have now.
My home is cold/ warm it up for me.
I am getting older/ warm my bones with your fire.
Crumbling structures, unfounded fear.
Stumbling by the railroad, it's coming I hear.
I'll be leaving now.
Say goodbye, wave goodbye/ to me.
I don't know where I'm going.
So it's goodbye, forever now.
